Tallahassee, Fla. (01/27/07) - The men's tennis team swept singles play to defeat #71 Furman, 4-2, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State University on Saturday morning. No. 1 Doubles duo Martin Stiegwardt (Quito, Ecuador) and Anze Cevka (Kamnik, Slovenia) won the lone doubles match for State, 8-1.

In singles action, Mattias Skold (Linkoping, Sweden) clinched the victory for the Panthers with a 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-0 over Furman's Andy Sobczyk. Freshman Andres Arango (Guayaquil, Ecuador) picked up the first point for State in straight sets.

The Panthers also played #15 Florida State in doubles action. Again the No. 1 tandem defeated their opponent, Ytai Abougzir and Jean-Yves Aubone, 8-6 in the lone doubles match for State.

State will return to action tomorrow to play singles against Florida State and a dual match with Florida Atlantic beginning at 10:00 a.m.
