The Georgia State women's tennis team defeated Florida A&M, 7-0, and Georgia Southern, 5-2, to complete a 4-game home stretch this weekend.
The Panthers faced four opponents in three days, including a triple-header with the men's team on Friday against Tennessee Tech and Samford. State opened its season losing two straight to Furman and No. 60 Virginia Tech and split its double-header results against Tennessee Tech and Samford.
State ran away with the doubles point with all three teams sweeping their matches and holding FAMU to a total of 5 points. In singles competition, State jumped off to an early start with Katerina Gresova blanking her opponent, Lenice Boyd, 6-0 in two sets at No. 5. FAMU pushed to three sets at No. 4, but Rachel Malina held on to win 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 over Latreece Olagbegi.
The Panthers took their momentum from Saturday's victory to Sunday's match against Georgia Southern. State won the doubles point with two victories from partners Nitkova and Gresova and Strickland and Powell. Georgia Southern threatened the score, winning two singles matches, but State held on to finish the match 5-2.
Georgia State travels to Mobile, Ala. on Sunday for an 11 a.m. match against No. 55 South Alabama.
