BIRMINGHAM, ALA. (Feb. 13, 2009) The Georgia State women's tennis team improved to 3-2 on the season with a 6-1 win over Samford on Friday at the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion.
Samford (0-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead, earning the early doubles point. Martina Nitkova and Katerina Gresova fell 9-8 at No. 1 and Dariana Kozmina and Kiara Powell fell 8-4 at No. 2 to give the Bulldogs the point.
However, the Panthers picked up six straight singles win to earn the match victory. Diana Nakic won her fifth straight match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Taylor Morgan at the No. 1 spot. Martina Nitkova defeated Andrie Meiring 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 and Dariana Kozmina picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rebecca Kirven at No. 3. Katerina Gresova ended her two-match losing streak with a6-0, 6-1 win over Shannon Hartman at No. 4 Kiara Powell defeated Stephanie Parker 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5, and Linda Hricistova picked up her first singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jessica Diamond at No. 6.
The Panthers return to action on Sat., Feb. 21 when they travel to Auburn.
