Panthers Advance to Semifinals

NORFOLK, Va. (April 17, 2009)  The top-seeded Georgia State women's tennis team defeated eighth-seeded James Madison, 4-0, this afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center to advance to the semifinal round of the CAA Championship.

The Panthers earned the doubles point with wins on courts one and two to take the early lead over James Madison.  Dariana Kozmina and Kiara Powell were the first off the courts with a shutout, 8-0, win over Kinsey Pate and Kristin Nimitz.  To seal the doubles point, the tandem of Martina Nitkova and Katerina Gresova defeated Leah DeMasters and Rebecca Erickson, 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.

With a 1-0 lead, State needed only three wins in singles to clinch the match victory.  Martina Nitkova was the first to respond, defeating Rebecca Erickson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2.  Katerina Gresova picked up the Panthers' third point with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Anna Khoor at No. 4. 

Dariana Kozmina clinched the fourth point and the match victory for state, defeating Kristin Nimitz 6-0, 6-2 on court three.

The Panthers will face #4 Old Dominion in the semifinal round on Saturday.  Match time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
