Lumpkin Scores Game-winner in Overtime Against Dukes

Harrisonburg, Va. - The Georgia State men's soccer team used a overtime goal from junior Ayokunle Lumpkin to win its second straight conference game against James Madison, 1-0, on Saturday night.

Only two minutes into the first overtime, the Panthers scored the game-winning goal from Lumpkin, who blasted a shot from 10 yards out that hit the right post and ricochets into the left corner. It was Lumpkin's third goal of the season and second of the week.

"It was a great combo between Evan Scott and Ayokunle Lumpkin, Lumpkin made a great strike for the goal," said head coach Brett Surrency. "We are fortunate to come away with a win but we will take it."

With the victory, Georgia State is 7-5-3, 4-4-1 in the CAA, giving them 13 points and a tie for second place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings. With only two games remaining, the Panthers are in a three-way tie for a spot for the CAA tournament, which will include the top four teams in the final standings.

Sophomore goalkeeper Vincent Foermer finished the game with his fourth shutout of the season and had seven saves in the victory.

"I think he is the best keeper in the conference and he continues to prove that game in and game out," said Surrency. "Anytime the opponent scores zero, you are not going to lose."

The Panthers had an opportunity in the 54th minute when sophomore Alex Vivanco had a shot on goal but James Madison's goalkeeper Ken Manahan made the save to start the second half.

In the first half, the Panthers had a couple of chances to crack the scoreboard when Vivanco had a shot that hit the post in the 42nd minute.

In the 45th minute, senior Darryl Evans blasted a shot high over the goal to end the half scoreless.

Foermer had a solid half, finishing with five saves to keep the game even.

Georgia State returns home to play the final two games of the regular season against George Mason on Saturday Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. and against Towson on Nov. 5 at 3 p.m.
