Tuscaloosa, Ala. -- Sophomores Diana Nakic, ranked 42nd nationally, and Kir Kemp both earned victories, but #67 Georgia State (0-6) lost to #38 Alabama (3-3), 5-2, on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers return to action on Friday to take on Georgia Southern in their home opener.
In doubles play, Diana Nakic/Linda Hricistova earned a victory against Paulina Bigos/Alic Tunaru, 8-1, to start the match off on the right path. Katerina Gresova/Tereza Lerova played a tough match against Alexa Guarachi/Courtney McLane, losing 8-2, to fall behind in the match, 1-0.
The Panthers tried to make a rally by winning the No. 1 singles match as Nakic knocked off Courtney Mclane, 6-4, 6-2. Nakic remains perfect in singles play this season with a 6-0 record.
Kemp won her match at No. 3 singles beating Paulina Bigos in a three-set match, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6). Kemp won the match after taking the third-set tie breaker 10-6.
Alabama clinched the match with a victory at No. 4 singles when Meritt Emery stopped Katerina Gresova, 6-4, 6-2.
