Chattanooga, Tn. -- Georgia State men's tennis continued its hot start to the season after defeating Chattanooga, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers have won four out of their last five matches to improve to 6-2 on the season. Sophomore Calvin Kemp won in straight-sets to improve to 8-0 in singles play.
Georgia State continued to play well early by taking the doubles point against Chattanooga. The team of Jackson Moore/Juan Pablo Gutierrez defeated Chris Smith/Stephen Crofford, 8-4. Victor Valente/Henri Mangin defeated Roberto Vieira/Jackson Tresnan, 8-6, to win the doubles point for the Panthers.
Freshman Lucas Santana won a tough three-setter at No. 3 singles to earn the fifth point for Georgia State, defeating Chris Smith, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4. Junior Juan Pablo Gutierrez picked up the clinching point at No. 6 singles, winning in straight sets, 7-6, 6-0.
"Our guys fought very hard today and got a nice road victory. We've got six victories so far this season and the guys are improving with each match. Calvin Kemp is 8-0 in singles play this year, which is very impressive. I'm excited for the future of the program," said head coach Chase Hodges.
Georgia State returns to action on Friday to take on Florida A&M at Piedmont Park.
