Women's Tennis Falls to No. 35 Florida State, 5-2

Tallahassee, Fla.  - The Georgia State women's tennis team fell at No. 35 Florida State, 5-2, Thursday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

Junior Kir Kemp and freshman Othilia Lindqvist won singles matches for the Panthers (9-2).

With Florida State (6-5) leading 3-0, No. 66 Noemie Scharle defeated No. 115 Abigail Tere-Apisah of GSU at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3, to clinch the match for the Seminoles. The loss was the first of the season for Tere-Apisah. 

Georgia State lost the doubles point to fall behind 1-0 in the match. Tereza Lerova and Kir Kemp, ranked No. 76 nationally, won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles, to give the Panthers their lone victory.

After the Panthers lost 8-4 at No. 3 doubles, Tere-Apisah and Maryna Kozachenko lost a close match 8-6 at No. 1 doubles against Francesca Segarelli and Ruth Seaborne. Tere-Apisah and Kozachenko were serving with the score 7-6, when the FSU duo won two straight games to claim the match and the doubles point.

Florida State took a 2-0 advantage after Ruth Seaborne won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles over Vi Truong.

The Seminoles won at No. 3 singles when No. 46 Katie Rybakova defeated Katerina Gresova, 6-2, 6-1.

Lindqvist gave the Panthers a point at No. 6 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Manon Veldman.

Kemp won in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7), at No. 4 singles over Federica Suess. Kemp was able to win the second set and then the super tiebreaker, 10-7, to 8-3 in singles.

In the final match of the day, sophomore Tereza Lerova lost in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles to Francesca Segarelli.

Georgia State heads home to face Boston University Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at Piedmont Park.
