ATLANTA--Junior Abigail Tere-Apisah won her third match of the spring against a nationally-ranked singles opponent but the No. 59-ranked Georgia State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at No. 24 Georgia Tech on Thursday.

Tere-Apisah led the Panthers (3-5) with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) win at the No. 1 position vs. Georgia Tech senior Elizabeth Kilborn. Tere-Apisah entered the match as the No. 29-ranked player in the ITA National Singles rankings while Kilborn is ranked No. 62. Combining her fall and spring records, Tere-Apisah is now 7-6 vs. nationally-ranked singles opponents.

Senior Whitney Byrd also notched a gritty 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) win at the No. 3 position vs. Georgia Tech's Megan Kurrey. Byrd snapped a five-match losing streak with the singles victory.

The last match of the night pitted GSU graduate student Jocelyn Ffriend against Georgia Tech's (3-3) Jasmine Minor. Ffriend fought back from dropping the first set 6-2 and then fought off two match points in the second set to win the set 7-5. Ffriend took an early lead in the third-set tiebreaker, but couldn't finish off the win and dropped the narrow match.

Georgia State, led by sixth-year head coach Miha Lisac, looks to bounce back on Saturday with a match vs. Eastern Kentucky. The match is scheduled to be held at 9:00 a.m. at the Blackburn Tennis Center on Saturday.
