Orlando, Fla.--The No. 46 Georgia State women's tennis team wrapped up its schedule during the Georgia State University spring break with a 6-1 loss vs. No. 14-ranked Clemson on Tuesday.

Senior Whitney Byrd earned the first singles win of her career against a nationally-ranked opponent to highlight the Panthers' (6-8) effort on Tuesday. Byrd won 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) against Clemson's Beatrice Gumulya, ranked No. 45 in the latest ITA National Singles rankings, to provide GSU's lone point on the day. Byrd owns one victory in her career against a regionally-ranked opponent last season, a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 triumph over USF's Fan Fracassi (#19).

Junior Abigail Tere-Apisah and sophomore Masa Grgan remained hot in doubles play by winning their fifth-straight match. The duo, ranked No. 56 in the latest ITA National Doubles rankings, won an 8-4 match at the No. 1 position against Clemson's Liz Jeukeng and Tristen Dewar. Tere-Apisah and Grgan improved to 10-3 this year with the win.

The Panthers, led by sixth-year head coach Miha Lisac, get a week and a half to prepare for their next two matches, both in Louisville, Ky. Georgia State takes on Louisville on Mar. 29 before facing No. 73 North Texas the next day. GSU's match against the Mean Green marks its only regular-season match against a Sun Belt Conference foe this season, and its first since joining the conference.

GSU's showdown with Clemson (7-5) marked the ninth time this season it faced a nationally-ranked opponent. It was the first Top-20 opponent for GSU since its Jan. 28 match against No. 6-ranked Georgia.
