COCOA BEACH, Fla. - The Georgia State sand volleyball team stumbled on its second day of the Ron Jon Surf Shop Beach-n-Boards Festival, losing both its matches by 3-2 scores. The Panthers (8-2) lost to both Stetson and Webber in an exhibition match.
To start off the day, the Panthers fell 3-2 to Stetson. Jansen Button and Sara Olivova at the second flight and Moriah Bellissimo and Katie Madewell at the fourth flight were the only two pairs to win for the Panthers. Button and Olivova defeated Julie Bassett and Rachael Farrell 21-18, 21-18. Madewell and Bellissimo defeated Maren Rygh and Jordann Dierickx in three sets, 24-22, 17-21, 15-11. At the fifth flight, Alexis Elmurr and Delaney Rohan lost in three sets, 21-19, 15-21, 15-12 to Tiffany Creamer and Kristin Lind.
In an exhibition match, the Panthers lost to Webber 3-2. Madewell and Bellissimo won their second match of the day in three sets and Rohan and Alexis Townsend picked up a win at the fifth flight. Madewell and Bellissimo defeated Briawna Mueiler and Bethany Taylor 21-18, 15-21, 15-8. Townsend and Rohan won against Michelle Einzinger and Shelbi Bertram 21-6, 21-12.
Georgia State will have some time off before its next tournament. The Panthers will hit the sand next at their own Sand in the City Tournament on March 29 and 30.
