ATLANTA – On a comfortable January afternoon, Georgia State's women's tennis team defeated Louisiana Tech 5-2 at Piedmont Park. The No. 67 Panthers improved to 2-2 on the year.
GSU swept doubles to start off on the right foot. The top duo of Linn Timmermann and Tarani Kamoe, ranked No. 40, pulled out a tight contest and won on a tiebreak to complete the sweep. The pair is 2-1 this spring and 8-2 in their last 10 matches.
On the singles side, Georgia State fell behind to Louisiana Tech when the Bulldogs claimed victories at Nos. 1 and 2. The back of the lineup came through, however, as the Panthers would win the other four contests to beat Louisiana Tech 5-2. Freshman Kristin Rehse continue her winning ways with a straight-set victory and remains perfect on the season. Seniors Masa Grgan and Chaimaa Roudami won their respective matches in straight-set fashion as well.
Georgia State has a quick turnaround as the team will play its third match in as many days when it hosts Florida Gulf Coast at Athletic Atlanta Club on Sunday at 8 a.m. After going 1-1 in the first two matches of the weekend, the Panthers hope to move into next week with a winning record.
