ATLANTA – On the first leg of a three-match road trip, Georgia State's men's tennis team lost 4-3 on Friday night to Sun Belt-foe Louisiana-Lafayette (3-5, 1-0 SBC). It was the third straight one-point loss for the Panthers (1-4, 0-2 SBC).

“We were right there again tonight thanks to our strong doubles play,” head coach Brett Ross said. “Jannis [Koeke] got a good win against a tough opponent, but we need to get everyone going in singles to turn these close contests into W's.”

GSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 3. The top pair of Zack Kennedy and Sofiane Chevallier improved to 4-0 this spring and extended their win streak to nine matches dating back to the fall. At No. 3, Sebastian Acuna and Valentin Horvat played together for the first time in match play and picked up the 7-6 win.

In singles, Georgia State once again won the top two matches, but dropped four points in the remaining contests to lose 4-3. Jannis Koeke grinded out a three-set win against Jake Wynan at No. 1 singles. Kennedy won No. 2 singles in straight sets. Both Panthers are 3-2 on the spring in singles play.

The road trip continues on Saturday as Georgia State travels to New Orleans and will face DePaul at 2 p.m. GSU stays in New Orleans for a Sunday match against No. 53 Tulane at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
