Late Goal Spoils Men's Road Opener in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, FLA - Host Jacksonville scored the game winner with 6:09 to play to take a 2-1 season-opening decision in GSU's men's soccer 2015 debut.

The Dolphins put the first goal on the board in the first half on a penalty kick at 11:18 by Martin Agredo. But, Georgia State senior Eddie Wilding tied the match quickly with his goal at 10:59. Wilding scored on an 18-yard kick from the right side. The assist on that GSU goal was by Nenad Smiljanic. The match was deadlocked 1-1 at the halftime.

The teams battled through the 40 minutes of the second half before JU's Alvaro Alvarez netted the game-winning shot.

Greyson Walldorff started in goal for GSU and registered five saves on the evening as JU had 12 shots and seven shots on goal.

This was the 24th meeting in this series of former conference rivals, but JU's first win since 2006 as GSU had won the previous three. JU still leads the overall series 12-10-2.

This box score is unofficial, pending changes from coaches.

The Panthers stay in Jacksonville and play again on Sunday at approximately 5 p.m. against North Florida on its campus. That match is also a doubleheader with the GSU women's match that starts at 2 p.m., so kick off depends on the finish of that first match.
