ATLANTA- The Georgia State men's soccer team shutout Jacksonville 2-0 Tuesday night, the team's second shutout of the season. Senior Casey Shultis scored the game-winner in the second half.

The Panthers improved to 9-6 while the Dolphins fell to 5-8.

The two teams took just three shots in the first 15 minutes as the teams adjusted to the warmer than normal October conditions. The Panthers had great opportunities to score, but back to back saves kept GSU out of the net.

Georgia State led Jacksonville in shots during the first half 7-2, and shots on target, 3-0.

The Panthers came into the second half looking to take the lead and did so midway through the half. Shultis scored first at the 67-minute mark off a deflection from sophomore Max Hemmings. It was his second goal of the season and proved to be the eventual game-winner.

GSU took a 2-0 lead after 77 minutes of play when freshman Frank Rosenwald scored off a deflection from Shultis. Rosenwald now has four goals this season, putting him fourth on the team for goals.

Georgia State finished the game outshooting the Dolphins 17-5, with nine of the Panthers' shots being on target. Shultis and Hemmings led the team with five shots each.

“We're pleased to get a win tonight, especially to get a shutout,” head coach Brett Surrency said. “We played well offensively, though Jacksonville was very organized and difficult to break down. We were able to find two goals late in the match and we are definitely pleased with the final result.”

The Panthers will return to the field on Saturday for their third Sun Belt match-up of the year at Appalachian State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Boone, N.C.
