ATLANTA – No. 45 Georgia State is 7-5 on the season following a 4-3 defeat at the hands of LA Tech on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers will look to rebound next weekend when conference play begins against Georgia Southern and Appalachian State.
Due to the threat of rain, coaches and match officials decided to begin play with singles competition and save doubles for last if necessary.
In singles, Kristin Rehse, Niri Rasolomalala, and Daniela Ramirez earned the team three points.
Niri Rasolomalala evened the match at 1-1 after Lara Vovk dropped her match 6-1, 6-0. Rasolomalala glided to a 6-1, 6-2 win over LA Tech's Marta Sramkova.
Linn Timmermann fell 6-4, 6-3 in a hard fought match on court one.
Daniela Ramirez brought the score back to even with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Manoela Chiachhio. Ramirez was in a tight battle before finding her groove and picking up the point for the Panthers.
Following Ramirez's match, Volejnicek failed in her attempt to rally and finished with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat on court five.
The Panthers moved to court two and cheered on Kristin Rehse to a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jazmin Britos.
In Doubles play, The Panthers fell behind early with a 6-3 defeat on court three. Timmermann and Tarani Kamoe teamed up to take down Chen and Starkova 6-3 and even up the doubles score 1-1. Rehse and Rasolomalala were unable to pick up the match clinching point, and fell 6-2 giving the Techsters the win, moving them to 11-3 on the season.
The Panthers will be back in action on Thursday against Georgia Southern and on Friday against Appalachian State. Both matches will be played in Troy at 1:00 p.m.
