ATLANTA – Kristin Rehse continued a team rally that started on court six and secured the match point with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 victory in the second singles position to give the Panthers a 4-3 victory over No. 43 South Alabama. Georgia State finishes the 2016 spring season with a 12-5 (4-0) record.

This win marks the third Panther victory over a ranked opponent.

The Panthers fell behind early Sunday afternoon, dropping the doubles point with quick losses on courts two and three.

Daniela Ramirez moved to position five in singles and continued to impress. She won 6-1, 7-6 to bring the Panthers their first point of the afternoon.

Linn Timmermann would come from behind to win 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 over No. 72 Alexandria Stiteler. Her victory evened the score at 2-2 as the Panthers recorded a loss on court six.

Kristin Rehse secured the win for Georgia State with her 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 win.

Head Coach Jason Marshall was proud of the ability to bounce back from the team. When the team fell behind in doubles, he noted that the team was beaten more by energy than team play.  “We were beat by energy in doubles and had to match South Alabama's electricity in singles. We just kept fighting and got a couple points better on every singles match.”

Georgia State's seeding in the upcoming conference tournament will depend on this week's ITA rankings. The top seed goes to the highest ranked team. At the moment Georgia State is three spots behind No. 43 South Alabama.

The conference championship will take place April 21-24 in New Orleans.
