STATESBORO, Ga.- In the final Sun Belt Conference match, the No. 53 Georgia State men's tennis team rolled over in-state rival Georgia Southern 4-1 Saturday afternoon. The match was originally scheduled for Friday afternoon, but was postponed to Saturday following doubles play due to rain.
The Panthers improved to 17-4 (4-0 Sun Belt) while the Eagles fell to 15-6 (1-1 Sun Belt).
Georgia State found its footing in doubles play after losing the doubles point in the past two matches, earning the doubles point against the Eagles in the first two matches. In the No. 2 match, Zackery Kennedy and Jack MacFarlane defeated Christian Kerrigan and Ze Moya 6-3. Jannis Koeke and Felipe Jaworski clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over JC Alcala and Eddie Landin. Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou's match went unfinished due to the clinch.
The Panthers came out strong in singles play, losing only one singles match. Jaworski was the first to finish, earning a 6-0, 6-2 win over Andre Johnson in the No. 6 match. Kennedy widened the score to 3-0, defeating Alcala 7-5, 6-1.
MacFarlane lost the only match of the game for the Panthers, falling 6-4, 6-0 to Landin. In the No. 1 match, Koeke clinched the match for Georgia State with a 6-1, 7-6 (4) win over Rise Lanne. Acuna and Andrukhou's match went unfinished due to the clinch.
