LAFAYETTE, La. – The Georgia State men's tennis team opened conference play with a 6-1 defeat of Louisiana Friday afternoon. No. 84 Zackery Kennedy clinched the match for the team, his first match-winning point of the season.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 6-4 (1-0 SBC) while the Ragin' Cajuns fell to 8-3 overall (0-1 SBC).
GSU stumbled to open the match, dropping the double point in straight matches. Kennedy and Jannis Koeke fell 6-1 to Eric Perez and Coleman Wahlborg in the No. 1 match, while Jamie Fraser and Arthur Libaud defeated Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou 6-3 to clinch the point for Louisiana.
The Panthers bounced back in singles play, earning all six points. Felipe Jaworski was the first Panther to finish, defeating Perez 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 match. Andrukhou put Georgia State ahead of Louisiana 2-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Vlad Kramarov.
Jack MacFarlane defeated Elio Lago 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 5 match, before Kennedy clinched the match for the Panthers with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 win over Libaud. Koeke defeated Pearse Dolan 6-7, 6-3, 10-2, while Quentin Coulaud finished the match with a 6-7, 6-3, 10-6 win against Wahlborg.
The Panthers will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they continue league play at South Alabama.
