Panthers Rally to Defeat North Florida

ATLANTA- The Georgia State men's tennis team defeated North Florida 4-2 Saturday afternoon in its home opener at Piedmont Park. GSU came back from a 2-0 deficit to win the match, with freshman Quentin Coulaud clinching the win.

With the win, the Panthers improved to 5-3 while the Ospreys fell to 2-3.

Andrei Andrukhou and Sebastian Acuna put Georgia State up a match in doubles play with a 6-1 defeat of Yannick Zuern and Zach Goldberg. North Florida tied the Panthers when Felipe Jaworski and Quentin Coulaud fell 6-3 to Jonathan Deautriell and Sahil Deshmukh. Jack Findel-Hawkins and Lasse Muscheites clinched the point for the Ospreys with a 7-6 (4) win over Zackery Kennedy and Jannis Koeke.

In singles play, Jack MacFarlane fell 6-1, 6-1 to Alberto De Meo to put GSU down 2-0. Kennedy earned the first point for GSU, defeating Findel-Hawkins 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 1 match. Andrukhou tied the match for the Panthers with a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Zuern.

Acuna put Georgia State up 3-2 with a 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Deautriell in the No. 5 match. Coulaud clinched the match for the Panthers, defeating Muscheites 5-7 (6), 7-6 (4), 6-3. Koeke's match went unfinished due to the clinch.

“Today was a really fun and exciting match for our guys to be a part of,” head coach Brett Ross said. “North Florida is a really solid team and I'm proud that the guys bounced back from a tough doubles point loss. We had our backs against the wall a little but the whole team fought back and showed some grit. These are the kind of matches that college tennis great.”

The Panthers will return to the court Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., at GSU – Clarkston to host No. 28 South Carolina. Live stats will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com.
