ATLANTA- The Georgia State men's team earned its second-straight shutout of the season with a 2-0 defeat of USC Upstate Sunday afternoon. Junior Max Hemmings scored the game-winner, while Rashid Alarape scored the second goal.

With the win, the Panthers improved to 2-0 while the Spartans fell to 0-2.

Georgia State opened the match aggressively, holding USC Upstate to just one shot. Hemmings scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 15-minute mark, slipping the ball into the net off an assist from Lukas Joyner. Alarape scored the final goal for the Panthers, putting the team up 2-0 off a throw-in from Liam Fitzsimmons.

In the second half, the defense held the Spartans to three shots. Senior Yannic Horn posted one save in the half, keeping a clean sheet for the second game in-a-row.

Of the 10 shots the Panthers took, Hemmings led the team with two while eight other Panthers took one each.

"We will take the win but we will definitely need to be sharper moving forward," head coach Brett Surrency said "All that to be said, it's good to be 2-0."

Georgia State will return to the field for a Power-5 matchup against Louisville on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com and a live stream will be available on PantherVision.
