Georgia State Falls at UAB; Clinches Sun Belt Regular Season Title

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-The Georgia State men's soccer team closed the regular season on Friday night with a tough 4-0 loss to UAB at BBVA Compass Field.

 

Despite the loss, Georgia State (9-6-2) clinched the Sun Belt Conference Regular Season title on Friday night as Coastal Carolina earned a 4-1 win over Georgia Southern in Conway, S.C. The Panthers will enter next week's conference tournament in Statesboro, Ga., as the No. 1 seed and play on Friday at either 4 p.m. or 7 p.m.

 

On an assist from Gael Mabiala, UAB got on the board in the 12th minute with a goal by Jake Futrell. Less than three minutes later, Blake White made it 2-0 UAB with his fourth goal of the season. In the 23rd minute, White added his second goal of the match and fifth of the season to give the Blazers a 3-0 lead.

 

Georgia State, which took nearly 20 minutes to get its first shot of the match, finished the first half with a 7-5 shots advantage, but was unable to find the back of the net.

 

UAB extended its lead to 4-0 on a goal by senior DeAndre Robinson with just over 20 minutes to play.

 

The Panthers finished the match outshooting the Blazers 16-11, including a 9-6 lead in shots on goal.

 

Georgia State will learn of its potential Sun Belt Championship semifinal opponent following the conclusion of the league's regular season on Saturday night.
