Jumeau’s Late Goal Lifts Georgia State Past Coastal Carolina

Panthers win at Coastal Carolina for first time since 1981

CONWAY, S.C. – Tristan Jumeau's goal in the final 10 minutes of regulation lifted Georgia State men's soccer to its first conference victory of the season as the Panthers battled past Coastal Carolina 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the CCU Soccer Stadium.

The win boosted GSU to 8-3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Sun Belt while the Chanticleers fell to 6-7-2 and 1-2 in the conference. Saturday was Georgia State's third straight victory over Coastal Carolina and the first time since 1981 the Panthers defeated CCU in Conway.

"We came here with 16 field players, lost one during the game and absolutely battled through and got a huge conference win," GSU head coach Brett Surrency said. "Words can't describe how proud I am of this team."

Neither side was able to generate much offense in the first half, as both teams combined for just five total shots after 45 minutes of action. There was only one shot on goal in the first half, coming in the seventh minute from Alex Summerfield.

Coastal Carolina turned up its attack in the second half, firing off 12 shots but was again held in check by the Georgia State back line of George Proctor, Ramon Munoz and Sora Wakabayashi. Of the Chanticleers' 15 total shots in Saturday's match, only three were on target.

GSU was also in short supply of many threatening scoring chances. The Panthers ended the afternoon with five total shots and just two on target but made the most of a corner kick in the 81st minute to provide the only score of the day.

Ross Finnie sent a ball inside the 18-yard box that met Jumeau who used a right-footed strike to net the game-winner for Georgia State. The goal was Jumeau's first of the season.

In goal, Paul Tyson recorded three saves and his fifth clean sheet of the season, the most among all keepers in the Sun Belt.

Georgia State is back in action 7 p.m. Tuesday to take on UAB at the GSU Soccer Complex.
