BOONE, N.C. – Georgia State men's soccer kicks off the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Tournament with an opening round matchup against rival Georgia Southern 4 p.m. ET Wednesday at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex in Boone, N.C.
GSU, the reigning Sun Belt champion, will look to make it to the SBC Tournament finals for the fifth consecutive season and become the first team to win back-to-back conference titles since Coastal Carolina in 2016-17.
SCOUTING GEORGIA SOUTHERN
- Georgia Southern closed out the regular season with a 4-0 loss to Coastal Carolina on Saturday, its second loss by three or more goals in its last three contests.
- The Eagles are led by sophomore forward Adam Davie, who leads the team with seven goals and four assists for 18 total points. Davie's four assists are tied for the third-most in the conference.
- Georgia Southern had three players earn All-Sun Belt postseason honors, including midfielder Aldair Cortes (First Team), defender Gonzalo Talavera (First Team) and forward Azaad Liadi (Newcomer of the Year, Second Team).
- Wednesday will be the 45th all-time meeting between Georgia State and Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern won the most recent outing between the two teams 2-1 on Oct. 12, snapping GSU's five-match unbeaten streak against the Eagles.

- Georgia State wrapped up the regular season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Appalachian State on Saturday.
- Junior forward
Aris Briggs scored twice in the win, the fifth time this season he has scored two or more goals in a single match, leading all players in the Sun Belt.

George Proctor notched his fourth goal of the year off a free kick in the 85th minute, becoming the fourth different Panther to score four or more goals this season.
- Between the posts,
Paul Tyson collected four saves and his sixth clean sheet of the year. It was the eighth time this season Tyson had recorded four or more saves in a match.

- Georgia State opened the first nine matches of the season with a 6-0-3 record, surpassing the previous school record of seven games without a loss to start a season set in 1967.
- Junior forward
Aris Briggs remains one of the top offensive threats in the Sun Belt this season, leading the league in points (29), points per game (1.71), goals (14) and goals per game (0.82). His 14 goals rank 9th among all players in NCAA Division I.
- GSU's Briggs,
Matthew Fearnley and
Frank Rosenwald all rank among the top 10 in the Sun Belt in total points. Each player has tallied 10 or more goals this season.
- The Panthers are ranked No. 8 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Association Southeast Region poll.
