COLUMBIA, S.C.- Georgia State beach volleyball split a pair of duals at the Gamecock Grand Slam Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina. GSU defeated Eastern Kentucky 5-0 before falling to host South Carolina 3-2. Panther pairs Ashely McGinn and Kelly Dorn and Becky Tresham and Maddie Gordon were 2-0 on the day.
In the morning tilt, Georgia State did not surrender a single game on the way to a 5-0 sweep of Eastern Kentucky. It was Georgia State's sixth 5-0 win on the season.
In the afternoon affair the Panthers jumped on the hosts quick as McGinn and Dorn won 21-14, 21-12 on court five. The fourth court would go to three games, but Gordon and Tresham would prevail, pulling away late for a 15-10 win. It was the seventh straight win for Gordon and Tresham.
The Gamecocks would comeback winning in two sets on the one and two courts. After winning the first set 21-17 Brooke Weiner and Kate Novack would drop the second, and the dual would be decided by a third game on court three. After holding a brief lead, the Panthers would fall 15-13 in the final set, dropping the dual 3-2.
Tomorrow GSU will look to finish strong in Columbia with two more duals. The Panthers will face Stetson at 9:00 a.m. before a CCSA matchup with UAB at 3:00 p.m.
