ATLANTA- Georgia State women's tennis fell 4-1 to UT Arlington Sunday afternoon at the Clarkston Campus despite a fifth straight singles win from Eva Chivu. The loss snapped a four match-winning streak for the Panthers.
Chivu and partner Daniela Ramirez won 6-2 on doubles court one, but the Panthers were unable to get the job done on court two and forfeited on court three to give UTA a 1-0 lead.
The Mavericks would double their lead with a walkover win on singles cour six, but Chivu would quickly get GSU on the board. The freshman dominated on court one winning 6-1, 6-2 for her fifth straight singles victory.
The win from Chivu would not be enough, as Arlington would win on courts four and five to clinch a 4-1 victory. Daniela Ramirez and Damira Muminovic held leads on courts two and three respectively when the match was clinched.
With the loss GSU is now 3-3 in Sun Belt play with four conference matches to play. Two of those matches will be next weekend as the Panthers hit the Carolinas for three road matches next weekend. State will face Coastal Carolina Friday and Appalachian State Sunday with a non-conference match at Winthrop on Saturday.
