Panthers Split Action in Saturday's Doubleheader

The Sandy Panthers finish opening weekend with a 3-1 record

What you need to know:
*Georgia State defeated Mercer before falling to No. 18 FAU.
* The Panthers finished the weekend with a 3-1 record.
*Elise Saga and Meagan McCall won their first dual match as a pair.
*The Panthers return to the sand Friday morning for two duals at Stetson
 
Jacksonville, Fla.- The Georgia State Sandy Panthers defeated Mercer 5-0 before falling to No.18 FAU 5-0 during Saturday's play at the UNF Invitational. The Panthers went 3-1 on the weekend.
 
During the opening match, Meagan McCall and Elise Saga won their first dual match as a pair to give the Panthers the early lead. Maddie Gordon and Becky Tresham extended the lead to 2-0. Georgia Johnson/Olivia Stasevich made quick work of their opponents to clinch the match. Eden Hawes and Maddy Delmonte would win in straight sets. Novack/Dorn provided the sweep behind an intense 21-19, 30-28 victory in position three.
 
In the second match of the day, lines four and five would fight, but were both outlasted in three sets. Novack/Dorn and Hawes/Delmonte would both drop their first matches of the season, clinching the match for FAU. With the match already clinched, G. Johnson/Stasevich would continue to fight, but would fall in three sets to secure the final point for FAU. 
 
The Panthers are back in action Friday morning as Beth Van Fleet's squad travels to Deland, Fla., for the Stetson Invitational. First serve is slated for 8:00 a.m. against Stetson. Fans can live stream the matches via Twitter.
