Five Panthers Collect Wins At Georgia Southern Fall Shootout

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Georgia State women's tennis team had another strong showing this past weekend at the Georgia Southern Fall Shootout with each of the five Panthers competing collecting wins.

Angel Carney and Alexia Alvarez were both successful in their singles brackets, with Carney winning the Blue bracket with wins over Christina Watson (Emory) 7-6 and 6-2 and Jessie Young (Chattanooga) 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Alvarez won the GATA bracket, collecting wins over Eliza McPherron (Emory) 7-5 and 6-4, and Paula Hijos (Georgia Southern) 6-4 and 6-2.

The duo came back from a loss on Saturday to finish with two doubles wins on Sunday against Mercer & Emory in the back draw of White bracket.

Pragnya Kumar had a win over Mercer on day one, but then fell to Emory on day two.

Maddy Frediani and Ellie Aldrich had an impressive 6-1 win over Mercer, but then fell to Davidson 6-2.

"Our goal is to continue to improve each time we step on the court and learn from each match and event," head coach Hannah Keeling said. "We approached this weekend with that mindset. Alexia and Angel both had a successful weekend in their singles brackets. We made positive strides with how we came back in this tournament and overcame to finish Sunday stronger. These matches and situations are great preparation for us leading into ITA Regionals this week and our build to spring semester"

The Panthers are back in action this weekend at the ITA Southeast Regionals in Orlando, Fla., starting on Thursday.
