Bella Ferary Finds First Collegiate Victories as GSU Defeats Two Opponents

Video Highlights from the Seminole Beach Bash: Matthew Choe

Tallahassee, Fla.- After falling in two duals during yesterday's season opener, the No. 18 Georgia State Sandy Panthers dominated in a pair of wins Sunday afternoon to close the Seminole Beach Bash. GSU outlasted Tampa 4-1 before picking up their first CCSA victory with a 5-0 result over Southern Miss.

Four Georgia State pairs, Elise Saga and Bella Ferary, Maddie Gordon and Becky Tresham, Mattie Johnson and Olivia Stasevich, Eden Hawes and Maddy Delmonte, all went 2-0 on the day. The victories from freshman Ferary marked her first collegiate wins.

During the opening match, Saga and Ferary got things started with a win on court five. Gordonand Tresham extended the lead to 2-0 with a three-set win on court four before Stasevich and Johnson clinched the dual with a win on court two. Dorn and McCall, who earned GSU's lone points over top-10 opposition yesterday, fell in a tough match in the No. 3 position to put the Spartans on the board. Hawes and Delmonte would win a straight set match to give the Panthers their fourth point in the dual.

Georgia State's CCSA opener against Southern Miss occurred immediately after the Tampa victory. The same five pairs took the sand for the Panthers. Courts five, four, and two would find straight set victories and clinch GSU's second win of the day. Delmonte and Hawes would once again add to the point total to extend the Panther lead. Dorn and McCall rebounded from their earlier loss, taking care of their opposition in the No. 3 position to complete the GSU sweep.

The Panthers return to action Saturday, March 6 at host, No. 1 LSU. Georgia State will be joined by Houston Baptist, No. 3 Florida State and No. 12 FAI in what is set to be a tough four-dual slate for the Panthers.
