LYNCHBURG, Va.– Liberty defeated Georgia State 6-1 Friday afternoon at the Crosswhite Athletic Club. The loss drops GSU to 0-2 on the young season, while propelling Liberty to 3-3.
The Flames were awarded the first point of the day after taking wins on courts one and three in doubles competition. This marked the first lost doubles point for the Panthers this season.
Liberty locked in wins on courts one, two, and three to clinch the team victory. Despite the team loss, GSU continued to battle on the bottom three courts. GSU's lone point of the day came from Roberts Grinvalds as he earned a 7-5, 7-5 result on court five. Liberty extended their point total with a three-set victory over Harvey Maughan on court four. The Flames finished the day with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Diego Padilha on the final court.
The Panthers are back on the road Sunday, Feb. 7 for a meeting with Mercer in Macon, Ga.
