Panthers Return to Georgia to Face Pair of In-State Foes

ATLANTA -- After a long stretch of road contests, Georgia State (2-8) returns to battle in-state opponent Mercer Friday afternoon at Life Time Athletic in Peachtree Corners. The Panthers will finish the week back on the road against conference rival Georgia Southern Sunday afternoon.

Last weekend Georgia State opened Sun Belt play with tilts against Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina. Alex Leatu met her best friend and former college teammate in head coach of the Mountaineers. The two squads engaged in a back-and-forth contest with multiple lead changes, but ultimately App State took the final point to secure the match. The following day GSU battled a tough team in Coastal Carolina, falling 4-0.

GSU will face a Mercer team that holds a 4-3 record. The Bears are coming off a 6-1 loss to ETSU on Wednesday. Last season, Georgia State defeated Mercer 4-3 in what would be the last contest of the 2020 campaign. Friday's first serve is slated for 1:00 p.m. Sunday, the Panthers will meet a Georgia Southern team which has notched a 4-6 record. The Eagles also opened Sun Belt play last weekend, falling to both Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina, 4-0. The Sunday afternoon tilt is set for a 2:00 p.m. start time.
