JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - No. 19 Georgia State collected two victories in the final day of the regular season over Florida Gulf Coast and host North Florida. The wins propel the Panthers to 21-12 this season, marking the fifth 20-plus win season in program history.
In the first meeting of the day, Georgia State battled FGCU. Meagan McCall and Maddie Gordon earned their fifth win of the season to start action over the Eagles. After dropping the first set, the Ferary sisters made a massive comeback to add to the GSU point total on the bottom court. FGCU would close the gap with a victory on the top court before Olivia Stasevich and Mattie Johnson secured the team victory behind a three-set decision on the third court. The Eagles would improve their score with a win in the second position, as the Panthers walked away with the 3-2 victory.Â
Immediately afterwards, GSU returned to the courts to face UNF. Once again McCall and Gordon struck first this time on the fifth court. Johnson and Stasevich put the Panthers in prime position with a win on court four. With GSU in need of only one court from the top three flights, Kelly Dorn and Kate Novack found a win to earn the last team victory of the regular season. The Ospreys accumulated wins on the remaining courts to bring the dual score to 3-2.
Next up, No. 19 Georgia State will head to Huntsville, Ala. for the CCSA tournament. The Panthers have notched a 7-8 record in conference play so far during the 2021 campaign. Stay tuned for more information regarding the tournament.Â
