ATLANTA -- Georgia State women's tennis fell 4-2  to rival Georgia Southern at Life Time Athletic on Friday afternoon. 

The Panthers started the match fired up to compete against the in-state foe. Denisa Gheorghe and Angel Carney snagged a 6-1 victory on court three in their first outing as a pair. The Eagles would take the second court. With all eyes on court one, Andreea Stanescu and Ellie Aldrich found the 6-3 victory to take the advantage.

Georgia Southern did not stay down for long, as they quickly surpassed Maddy Frediani on court 5. The Eagles would make a scoring run collecting wins on courts 4 and 6. The victories on the bottom three courts put Georgia Southern within striking distance of the team victory. 

The Panthers on the top three courts showed their fight and determination as they took each of their matches to three-sets. Angel Carney would close the gap with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 decision on the second court. Andreea Stanescu and Ellie Aldrich would both fight hard on their respective courts to find the GSU victory. Aldrich, who outlasted her opposition in a second set tiebreaker, ultimately fell in the third and deciding set as Georgia Southern clinched the match. Simultaneously, Andreea Stanecu held a 5-1 lead in her third set. The junior's match would go unfinished. . 

Georgia State will pause Sun Belt action on Sunday for an afternoon tilt with UAB. The match is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. first serve at Life Time Athletic in Peachtree Corners, Ga.
