Kevin Huynh Finds Victory as GSU Falls in Sun Belt Title Match

Box Score

Peachtree City, Ga. –  The Georgia State men's tennis team fell 4-1 in a heartbreaking loss to the No. 3 seed South Alabama in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament finals on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Panthers fell to 15-8 on the season and the Jaguars improved to 12-7.

Georgia State fell behind early in doubles action. Despite Mihai Marinescu and Vazha Shubladze finding a gritty win on court three, the Jaguars collected victories on the remaining courts to take the one-point advantage in singles action.

The Panthers tied the match 1-1 with a 6-0, 6-3 result from Kevin Huynh, a senior, on the sixth court. South Alabama quickly regained their footing, earning a straight set decision on court four over Andrei Duarte. The Jaguars did not look back, as they found nearly simultaneous results in the No. 1 and No. 5 positions to take the title.

This match marks the conclusion of an impressive season for GSU, including a 10-match winning streak to match the fifth most in program history.
