Troy, Ala.– Georgia State men's tennis cruised to a 4-1 victory over Troy on Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated in regular season Sun Belt action.
The Panthers continue their successful 2021 campaign, registering their eighth consecutive victory. Overall, Georgia State holds a 12-5 record.
Georgia State fell behind early as the Trojans came out hot in doubles play. The two squads split action on the top two courts. No. 47 Harvey Maughan and Kevin Huynh found a win on top court while No. 76 Roberts Grinvalds fell on the second. All eyes turned to court No. 3 where Troy emerged victorious in a tiebreaker to clinch the one-point advantage.
The Panthers quickly responded by closing the deficit with a win from Vazha Shubladze on the top court. This marks his sixth in a row, including two wins over ranked opposition. Kevin Huynh added to the GSU point total with a victory on court five before Mihai Marinescu put Georgia State within striking distance of the victory. Playing on the second court, Harvey Maughan bested his opposition with a straight-set decision to clinch the Panthers victory. With the Georgia State win clinched action halted on the remaining courts.
The Panthers will remain on the road next week facing UAB on Friday afternoon before remaining to Atlanta to square-off against Jacksonville State for Senior Day.
