Late Goals Give Men's Soccer 3-1 Win Over UAB

Panthers Record 500th Program Win

Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – An early goal and two late goals just 100 seconds apart gave the Georgia State men's soccer team a 3-1 win over UAB on Tuesday night at BBVA Field.

The victory marked the 500th in program history for Georgia State (7-2) which won for the fourth-straight time and improved to 5-1 on the road this season. The five road wins are tied for the most in the country this year.

UAB (2-6) lost for the fourth-straight time to the Panthers dating back to a win in 2018.

Junior Max Wilkins got the Panthers on the board just nine minutes into the game with his second goal of the season giving GSU a 1-0 lead. Both Bryan Silva and Simon Carlson picked up their second assists of the year on the goal.

UAB's Nathaniel St. Louis tied the game up in the 38th on a penalty kick, giving him his team-best fifth goal of the year.

Senior captain George Proctor gave the Panthers the lead for good in the 74th minute on a penalty kick. It was his second goal of the year.

Just 100 seconds later, senior Salar Faryar found the back of the net with his second goal of the season, giving GSU a commanding 3-1 lead. Faryar's goal came after a perfect pass from Carlos Luna who recorded his second assist of the year.

Goalkeeper Gunther Rankenburg recorded four saves on the night giving him 26 on the year, the most of any goalkeeper in the MAC.

  • Georgia State now leads the all-time series with the Blazers 16-9-1, including a 7-3-1 mark in Birmingham.
  • Georgia State has now outscored UAB 11-2 in the last three meetings between the two schools.
  • Head coach Brett Surrency improved to 5-1-1 all-time against UAB.
  • GSU is 5-1 on the road this season and have outscored their opponents in those matches 13-6.
  • Georgia State has allowed 10 goals in the first nine matches of the season, however, five of those have come via penalty kicks, including the lone UAB goal tonight.

  • Georgia State will open Mid-American Conference play traveling to No. 17 Bowling Green on Oct. 7 p.m. as part of a two-game road trip that will also take them to Akron which is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll.
