Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Saturday Doubleheader in Florida

Fort Myers, Fla.- Georgia State women's tennis finished the day with losses in both matches on the road in Florida. 

The team fell 4-2 to Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday morning in a hard-fought match that saw the team play well early and claim the first doubles point. Andreea Stanescu and Eva Chivu claimed victory 6-4 on court one while Angel Carney and Sofya Golubovskaya defeated their opponents 6-2 on court two.
 
The Panthers carried that momentum into singles action and continued to display an impressive performance as a team. Eva Chivu won her match with a 6-2, 7-6 decision on court one and earned GSU a second point. Despite the strong effort from the Panthers, Florida Gulf Coast was able to claim victory on courts four, five, six and two. 
 
GSU returned to action in Fort Myers to face FAU on Saturday evening for the second match of the doubleheader. Originally scheduled for Sunday, the match was moved due to rain forecasted for Sunday, Jan. 16.
 
The Panthers fell to FAU 4-1 after dropping the first doubles point and losing singles matches in courts one, two and six. Angel Carney secured a win 6-0, 6-1 on court five. 
 
GSU looks to rebound against Middle Tennessee on Monday, Jan. 17 at 8 a.m. as the team plays their final match of the trio of road games in Fort Myers.
