Men's Tennis Set to Face USF at Home

ATLANTA- Georgia State men's tennis will host USF on Friday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. ET in the team's second home match of the season. Coming off an impressive win 5-2 over Wofford this past Sunday, the Panthers look to continue their stellar play that has relied heavily on contributions from the entire team.

Despite injuries effecting the team's lineup entering the season, GSU managed to display an impressive effort in both season opening matches and secure a win by way of strong performances as a collective.

The Panthers' early success has been driven in large part by leadership from veteran members of the team, namely fifth year senior Andrei Duarte who has been particularly effective in both singles and doubles competition while playing alongside senior Roberts Grinvalds. Duarte and his partner were narrowly defeated in a close doubles match 7-5 as they challenged a favored No. 3 Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel of Georgia Tech. The pair went on to post a resounding victory 6-3 in their next match.

Fifth year senior Kevin Huynh clinched the victory over Wofford with a win on court three, while junior Patrick Lazo has seen singles victories in both matches thus far this spring. The lone underclassman to see action for Georgia State, freshman Edward Tymes has also come through for GSU with a win of his own against Wofford on court six.

The Panthers anticipate another tough match on Friday as they
gear up to face USF— a team that fell just one win short of an American Athletic Conference title last spring. Dropping in doubles competition and falling behind 0-1 early in each of the previous two matches, GSU will attempt to get off to a faster start in their third match and place themselves in a more favorable position heading into singles play.

The match will be held at Life Time Athletic and Tennis in Peachtree Corners, Ga. on the team's indoor courts. Live stats will be available.
