Panthers Secure Second Win on the Road Against Mercer

Macon, Ga.- Coming off a dominant shutout win on the road against Clark Atlanta on Thursday, the Georgia State women's tennis team secured another win over Mercer, 4-3, on Friday. In a quick turnaround, GSU posted back-to-back victories following the results of Friday's match as sophomore Ellie Aldrich clinched a win for the Panthers with a three-set victory.

Playing in court position No. 5 for the Panthers, Aldrich dropped her first set, 4-6, and found herself trailing in the last remaining competition of the day. Tied at 3-3 and GSU potentially facing defeat with a loss, Aldrich responded by rallying for a win in her second set, 7-5, and ultimately clinching a come-from-behind victory in the match, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(4), with her win in the third set.

Dropping in doubles competition and falling behind early, 1-0, GSU was forced to create it's own momentum entering singles play. With both teams trading victories, Mercer managed to win tough matches on courts one and three while GSU secured wins on courts two, four and six leading up to Aldrich's match-deciding clincher on court five.

Andreea Stanescu posted another strong performance resulting in a victory, 6-3, 6-2, as she competed in the team's second position. Angel Carney also defeated her opponent in a three-set match, 4-6, (7-5), 6-5, playing in the No. 4 position, and Pragnya Kumar earned the Panthers an additional point with a win in the sixth position, 6-3, 7-5.

GSU moves to 2-3 on the season with the victory.

The Panthers will return to Atlanta on Sunday for the team's third and final match of the weekend triple-header as the team is set to open at home for the first time this spring. GSU will face Lipscomb at 2 p.m. ET at the GSU Clarkston Courts. Live stats will be available.
