Panthers Secure Fifth Straight Win on the Road Over Elon, 4-2

Elon, N.C.- In the second match of a weekend doubleheader, the Georgia State women's tennis team secured its fifth straight victory on Saturday with a win on the road over Elon, 4-2. Moving to 5-3 on the season, the Panthers once again posted dominant performances across the team's lineup as Ellie Aldrich clinched the match in the sixth position.

Following Friday's resounding win over UNC Greensboro, 7-0, GSU traveled up the road to face Elon for the backend of the team's slate of weekend competition.

The quick turnaround saw GSU fall behind early despite battling for the point in doubles. Sofya Golubovskaya and Angel Carney claimed victory in the fist position, 6-3, but GSU dropped courts No. 2 and No. 3 as Elon took a 1-0 lead entering singles competition.

GSU quickly regained momentum. Evening the match at 1-1, Golubovskaya posted yet another strong performance in the team's second position as the grad transfer secured the team's first point with a win on court No. 2, 6-1, 6-0.

Carney earned the team a second point and the lead with a win at the fifth position, 6-2, 6-0. The win marks Carney's fifth straight victory in singles as the junior moves to 6-2 on the year. Partnering with Golubovskaya, Carney is also undefeated in doubles competition. The duo boasts a 7-0 record with one match unfinished.

GSU proceeded to secure singles victories on courts No. 3 and No. 6 as the Panthers closed out the road match as well as weekend play in the team's trip to Greensboro. Andreea Stanescu collected her fourth consecutive win in another one sided outing. The senior knocked off her opponent, 6-0, 6-2, in the third position and claimed a third point for the Panthers. Aldrich then clinched the match with a win, 6-2, 6-4, and earned the team a final point on court No. 6. This is Aldrich's second match-clinching performance of the spring season.

The Panthers will return home next weekend for a match against Kennesaw State on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. ET. The team's second home outing will be played at the GSU Clarkston Courts as the Panthers host the in-state foe. Live stats will be available.
