Men's Tennis Set to Open Conference Play Against Troy, South Alabama

ATLANTA- The Georgia State men's tennis team will open conference play this weekend with home matchups against Troy on Saturday, March 19 and South Alabama on Sunday, March 20. Currently 8-6 on the season, No. 75 GSU enters the Sun Belt portion of its schedule with hopes of making a push for a return trip to another conference title match.

The Panthers closed out non-conference play last weekend with a win over Chattanooga on the road. The outing saw GSU return to form in doubles as ITA doubles ranked No. 74 pair Andrei Duarte and Roberts Grinvalds secured the early point with a win on court No. 1, 6-3.

The team entered singles and reeled off three straight wins to clinch the victory as Patrick Lazo claimed the match point for the Panthers in the fifth position. Keeping the team above .500, the win served as a much needed boost in confidence and momentum as GSU prepares for its slate of Sun Belt competition.

GSU enters Saturday's outing against Troy having won six straight matches against the conference opponent. The Panthers are 10-1 all-time in matchups with the Trojans.

Sunday will mark the Panthers' first meeting with South Alabama since coming up short against the Jaguars in the conference title match a season prior. The series history between the two schools is currently even at 6-6.

Match times are set for 10 a.m. ET and will be hosted by the Panthers at the GSU Clarkston Courts. Live stats will be available for both matches.
