Panthers Wrap Up First Day of Tournament Competition in Gulf Shores With Back-to-Back Wins

GULF SHORES, Ala.- Opening competition at the fourth annual March to May in Gulf Shores, the Georgia State beach volleyball team posted back-to-back victories in duals against No. 20 Tulane and host UAB to wrap up the first day of tournament play on Friday. With the wins, No. 13 GSU moves to 10-4 on the spring and will return for the second day of action on Saturday with matches against No. 7 Grand Canyon, No. 1 UCLA and No. 5 LSU.

Having fell short in its season opening match against Tulane, GSU's rematch with the Green Wave saw the Panthers collect victories in flights No. 4, No. 3 and No. 2 as GSU knocked off Tulane, 3-1. Angel Ferary and Bella Ferary displayed yet another strong performance as the pair defeated opponents in the No. 4 court position, 21-14, 21-14.

Eden Hawes and Maddy Delmonte secured a win, 21-14, 21-17, in the third flight while Yasmin Kuck and Kayla Whetstone saw victory, 21-17, 21-14, to clinch the match for the Panthers.

With weather impacting start times for tournament match play throughout the day, Friday's second outing for the Panthers would finally get underway after an initial delay as well as a stoppage in play.

GSU posted a swift 3-0 victory over host UAB with yet another victory for the Ferary sisters in the fourth flight as well as an additional victory for Hawes and Delmonte in the third flight. Freshmen pair Destiny White and Ayla Johnson secured the win for GSU in court position No. 5 as the team collected its tenth win.

With continued complications due to weather, the Panthers' match against No. 7 Grand Canyon was postponed. Originally set for Friday at 4 p.m. ET, GSU will face GCU on Saturday at 8 a.m. ET before its duals with UCLA and LSU slated for later that morning and afternoon.

GSU will face top ranked UCLA at 10 a.m. ET followed by No. 5 LSU at 2 p.m. ET to conclude tournament competition for the weekend. The outings will be held at The Hangout in Gulf Shores.

Information on live scoring and streaming will be posted on the team's social media accounts on Saturday. Follow @GSUBeachVB on Twitter and Instagram for news regarding potential schedule adjustments and continued updates throughout the day.
