Panthers Finish Undefeated at Home with 4-0 Performance at GSU Digging Duals

ATLANTA— The Georgia State beach volleyball team finished the weekend unbeaten at 4-0 hosting the annual GSU Digging Duals. With wins over Tampa, Austin Peay, Chattanooga and Conference USA opponent UAB, the Sandy Panthers move to 4-3 in conference play and 18-11 overall. 

The second day of action saw battles with UTC and conference foe UAB. The Panthers held a special ceremony for seniors, graduate transfers and fifth years prior to the UTC match.

GSU opened Saturday's competition by charting its 10th shutout of the spring with a win over UTC, 5-0, highlighted by top pair Kelly Dorn and Elise Saga posting a dominant win, 21-6, 21-12, on court No. 1. No. 2 pair Eden Hawes and Maddy Delmonte secured a win, 21-11, 21-16, and Yasmin Kuck partnered with Kayla Whetstone to defeat opponents in the third flight, 21-10, 21-15. 

Chloee Kleespies and Becky Tresham won, 21-15, 21-19, and Tyler Lindgren paired with Bailey Hatchett in flight No. 5 for a victory, 21-16, 21-15. Ayla Johnson and Destiny White saw victory in flight No. 6, 21-11, 21-11, and the Panthers defeated UTC in a sweep, 5-0.

Saturday's second outing would close out the home tournament for the Panthers as the team downed UAB, 4-1, in a conference dual match. Sisters Angel Ferary and Bella Ferary once again finished first in the fourth flight as the pair saw victory, 21-17, 21-14, improving to 27-2 for the season. 

Hawes and Delmonte won in flight No. 2, 21-12, 21-18, as the pair of Preseason All-Conference members partnered for a final home outing together. With Kuck and Whetstone winning in flight No. 3, 21-14, 21-17, as well as Kleespies and Tresham winning in flight No. 5, 21-19, 21-19, both pairs finished the weekend unbeaten in dual match play.

GSU will return to tournament play next weekend at the Palmetto Invitational in Columbia, S.C. Dual matches slated for the weekend will include host South Carolina and Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, April 15, followed by College of Charleston and C-USA foe Coastal Carolina on Saturday, April 16.
