Women's Tennis to Host Conference Rival Georgia Southern for Senior Day

ATLANTA— The Georgia State women's tennis team will close out its regular season with a home matchup against in-state conference rival Georgia Southern on Friday, April 15. The Panthers will recognize seniors Andreea Stanescu and Eva Chivu for Senior Day before facing the Sun Belt opponent and looking to tie the school record for regular season wins in a season at 16.

Coming off a two-win season in 2021, first-year head coach Hannah Keeling has led the Panthers to a 15-5 record with an 8-1 mark in conference play. Friday's match offers GSU the opportunity to near closer to the single-season school record for total wins at 17.

The emotional leader for the Panthers, Stanescu has posted an 11-2 record playing at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles court positions for GSU. The senior has seen straight-set victories in seven consecutive singles matches since her last loss ending in three sets and lasting nearly five hours facing KSU.

Chivu has accounted for 10 wins in singles and 11 wins in doubles this season despite battling through an injury. The senior has competed at the top court in singles competition in every match for the Panthers.

With 15 straight match victories in singles, junior Angel Carney nears the school record for consecutive wins currently standing at 17. Carney has also posted 12 victories at the top doubles court playing alongside partner Sofya Golubovskaya.

With a win, the Panthers would clinch a share of the Sun Belt Conference Regular Season Championship. Nearing the Sun Belt Conference Championship beginning Friday, April 21, GSU will enter the postseason with hopes of securing a fourth SBC Tournament Championship.

Friday's Senior Day will see GSU complete its regular season of competition with a match against Georgia Southern at 10:30 a.m. ET. The outing will be hosted by the Panthers at the GSU Clarkston Courts with live scoring available.
