Maughan Clinches Match Point in Panthers' Conference Win Over Coastal Carolina

Conway, S.C.- Securing its fourth conference victory, the Georgia State men's tennis team saw a victory on the road over Sun Belt foe Coastal Carolina on Saturday. Harvey Maughan clinched the match point for GSU in the fifth court position as the Panthers moved to 12-7 on the season and 4-1 in SBC play.

True to the team's form, GSU once again won in doubles competition and took an early lead, 1-0. The Panthers have secured the early deuce point in 14 of 19 outings this spring.

Patrick Lazo added to the Panthers' lead with a dominant win, 6-3, 6-0, in the sixth position as GSU took a 2-0 advantage. Coastal Carolina proceeded to even the match, 2-2, after GSU dropped matches on court No. 4 and No. 3.

Roberts Grinvalds claimed the second court position with a victory, 6-4, 6-2, giving the lead back to the Panthers, 3-2. Andrei Duarte saw efforts in a hard-fought three set battle at the top court fall short as the fifth year narrowly dropped at the No. 1 court position and Coastal Carolina once again evened the match.

Tied at 3-3, Maughan clinched the match with a three set victory, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-2, on court No. 5 as GSU earned the conference victory over Coastal Carolina, 4-3.

Sunday will feature an additional road outing in South Carolina for the Panthers as GSU matches up against Presbyterian at 2 p.m. ET. The match will be held at Templeton Tennis Courts in Clinton, S.C.
