Women's Tennis Hits the Road for Conference Battle with Arkansas State

ATLANTA- After securing back-to-back road wins in conference play last weekend, the Georgia State women's tennis team travels to Jonesboro, Ark. for a Sun Belt Conference matchup with Arkansas State on Saturday, April 9. The Panthers have charted a 14-5 overall record for the season and near the GSU record for regular season wins in a season at 16.

GSU enters the weekend having knocked off No. 68 SBC opponent UT Arlington last Sunday. With the win over previously top-ranked UTA, the Panthers are now tied for most wins in the Sun Belt at 7-1.

The seventh win marks a school record for Sun Belt victories. Angel Carney has seen 15 straight singles victories playing in the team's fourth and fifth court positions and approaches the school record for consecutive victories at 17.

Andreea Stanescu posted a decisive victory, 6-1, 6-0, on singles court No. 3 over UTA and has accounted for the second-most wins on the Panthers' roster at 11.

Sofya Golubovskaya received Sun Belt Player of the Week consideration for her performance over the weekend. The grad transfer went 3-1 at the No. 2 court position and clinched match point for GSU in its win over Texas State, 4-2.

Eva Chivu went 4-0 securing wins at the top singles court position and No. 3 doubles court for the Panthers. The senior defeated her opponent on the first court in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, and clinched the match victory over UTA, 4-2.

The Panthers' ninth conference outing facing Arkansas State will be played at A-State Tennis Complex at 11 a.m. ET. Information on live scoring will be posted to the team's social media accounts leading up to Saturday's match.
