No. 10 Sandy Panthers Face 5 Ranked Foes at Fifth Annual March To May

GULF SHORES, Ala.— No. 10 Georgia State beach volleyball travels to Gulf Shores, Alabama this weekend and prepares to compete at the fifth annual March To May on March 17-19. Head coach Beth Van Fleet and the Sandy Panthers enter the tournament with an 8-3 overall record for the spring coming off a 3-1 performance at the team's home-opening tournament in Atlanta last week.

In Van Fleet's tenth season coaching for GSU, the Sandy Panthers' head coach approaches the 200 total win mark. The team's 5-0 shutout over Sun Belt Conference foe Mercer at home last week marked win number 196 for Van Fleet. 

Van Fleet also currently ranks third in wins among all active NCAA collegiate beach volleyball coaches. The head coach has led the Sandy Panthers to 164 NCAA victories throughout the eight seasons that beach volleyball has been officially recognized as an NCAA collegiate sport. 

Tenth-ranked GSU gears up for three days of dual match competition in Gulf Shores with six matchups slated for March 17-19. The Sandy Panthers' weekend of competition will include five meetings against teams currently ranked top-20 in the AVCA national coaches poll.

GSU opens the tournament on Friday, March 17 at 9 a.m. ET with a dual against No. 6 LSU. The team will return to play on Friday and face No. 5 LMU at 1 p.m. ET.

The team battles No. 3 UCLA on Saturday, March 18 for the second day of March To May competition in Gulf Shores. Match time is set for 10 a.m. ET.

The third and final day of competition will see GSU in a rematch with No. 4 Florida State on Sunday, March 19 beginning at 10 a.m. ET, followed by a noon ET matchup against tournament host UAB. The Sandy Panthers will wrap the weekend with a dual match against No. 19 Tulane at 3 p.m. ET.

Matches are set to be contested at The Hangout in Gulf Shores.
