No. 10 Sandy Panthers Open at Home With Annual Day of Duals

ATLANTA– No. 10 Georgia State beach volleyball (6-2) will open home competition for the 2023 season this week as head coach Beth Van Fleet and the Sandy Panthers prepare to host the annual GSU Day of Duals on Wednesday, March 8. GSU enters its third week of dual match tournament competition having posted a pair of victories at the Tampa Invitational last week, each highlighted by strong performances from fifth-flight pair Destiny White and Aliisa Vuorinen.

GSU saw battle in three matchups facing AVCA top-20 ranked opponents in Tampa last weekend and posted a split for week-two competition. Posting a 3-1 record as a pair, White and Vuorinen charted wins against No. 6 Grand Canyon, No. 11 Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast to help the Sandy Panthers improve to six wins for the spring.

Despite a narrow 3-2 defeat facing GCU and a loss against No. 3-ranked TCU, GSU closed the weekend with momentum following strong play in the team's 4-1 victory facing FGCU. The Sandys look toward Wednesday's home opener in Atlanta with a slate of matches to include outings against a pair of Sun Belt Conference foes and two nationally-ranked opponents.

Day of Duals will see GSU welcome Sun Belt Conference foes No. 20 Coastal Carolina and Mercer, as well as No. 4 overall ranked Florida State. The team will host the tournament at the GSU Beach Volleyball Complex with matches beginning at 8 a.m. ET.

No. 10 GSU will open home tournament competition on Wednesday with an 8 a.m. ET match facing No. 20 Coastal Carolina. The Sandys will battle No. 4 FSU at 5 p.m. ET, then close the single-day event with a match against Mercer at 7 p.m. ET.

The Sandys currently sit at 1-0 for conference play this spring, and hold an undefeated record when facing both SBC opponents Coastal Carolina and Mercer. GSU is 5-0 all time in dual matches facing the Sandy Chants, and has beaten Mercer in 14 consecutive outings dating back to 2013.

GSU will look to secure victory against the fourth-ranked Seminoles for the first time since 2015.
