Marques Scores, but Panthers Fall 1-2 to No. 6 West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Georgia State fell 1-2 to No. 6 West Virginia on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in Morgantown. After conceding a goal in the 28th minute, the Panthers responded early in the second half with a 50th-minute goal from Gustavo Marques, narrowing the deficit to 2-1. Marques' strike was the only shot on target for Georgia State, while goalkeeper Finn Marchisen made four saves to keep the Panthers within reach. Despite a strong defensive effort, Georgia State couldn't find the equalizer against the highly-ranked Mountaineers.

How it Happened 

West Virginia started the scoring when Sergio Ors Navarro scored in the 28th minute, assisted by Isaac Scheer and Carlos Hernando.

The Mountaineers extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Max Trethewey in the 49th minute, assisted by Constantinos Christou.

Georgia State closed the gap to 2-1 on Gustavo Marques' 50th-minute goal, his second of the season. Neither team scored again in the game.
