ATLANTA -- Georgia State put together an explosive 202-yard performance on the ground and two rushing touchdowns, but fell 48-27 to Coastal Carolina Saturday afternoon at home at Center Parc Credit Union Stadium. Georgia State closes out their 15th season at 3-9 and 1-7 in the Sun Belt Conference.
"We are going to take a deep breath, re-assess the entirety of our program and figure out how we can move forward next season," said head coach Dell McGee.
Offensively, Christian Veilleux led Georgia State's passing attack with 205 yards through the air. The signal caller also added 62 yards on the ground.
Freddie Brock led all Panthers rushers with 71 yards and two touchdowns in the contest, picking up 5.1 yards per carry. Ted Hurst reeled in eight catches for 131 yards.
Defensively, Kevin Swint led with eight tackles while Ja'Maric Morris and Jyron Gilmore each had interceptions. Jyron Gilmore added five tackles and one interception. Jeremiah Johnson, Josiah Robinson, and Xavier Robinson each added six tackles.
The Panthers forced two turnovers in Saturday's contest, with Georgia State turning those takeaways into 10 points. Georgia State recorded a stellar performance on the ground, racking up 202 rushing yards while averaging 6.1 yards per carry. Georgia State converted on five of their nine (41.7%) of their third-down opportunities on the day.
The Panthers defense disrupted the Coastal Carolina passing attack on the way to pulling down two interceptions.
How It Happened
After Coastal Carolina opened up a 7-0 lead, Georgia State scored with 14:07 remaining in the second quarter to narrow the margin to 7-3.The Panthers then took the lead on a 19-yard rushing touchdown from , making the score 10-7.
Coastal Carolina fought back to take a 24-10 lead before Georgia State put a field goal on the board to narrow the gap with 7:06 left in the third quarter and make it a 24-13 game.Coastal Carolina scored to extend its lead to 31-13 before the Panthers scored again to narrow the advantage and make it a 31-19 game.
Coastal Carolina expanded its lead to 48-19 until Georgia State scored again to narrow the gap with 4:36 left in the fourth quarter and make it a 48-27 game. Neither team scored again in the game.
